The faithful people of St. Peter's United Church of Christ have worshiped God, preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ for more than a century. A group of German settlers, seeking a way to worship and live out their faith in southern Indiana's Center Township, erected a log church near Oak Ridge Cemetery. In 1884, construction was started on the present Sanctuary on a plot of land donated by Henry Happel. On January 1, 1885 the first congregational meeting was held in the new Sanctuary.
St. Peter's is a member congregation of the United Church of Christ, a denomination which was formed in the late 1950's from a merger of the Evangelical and Reform Church and the Congregational Christian Church.
